The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies
The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, founded in 1823 by William Dick, is recognised as an international leader in veterinary education, research and practice, and is consistently ranked as one of the top schools in the United Kingdom and globally.
The School is a one-of-a-kind centre of excellence in clinical activity, teaching and research. The purpose-built campus, set against the backdrop of the beautiful Pentland Hills Regional Park, is home to more 800 staff and almost 1,400 students.

Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine & Surgery Programme (BVM&S)
By studying towards a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery degree at the University of Edinburgh, students will achieve a world-class education and an internationally accredited qualification in a multi-cultural and thriving environment.
Yr 1: Pre-clinical
An extended first year starting in early August in which students learn about the normal function of the animal body from the cell level to the entire organism. Clinical and professional skills are taught from the first year of the programme. Extra Mural Studies (EMS) are a key component of the degree and students are required to complete 12 weeks of Animal Husbandry placements by the end of the first year (up to 6 weeks can be completed prior to the start of the course).
Yrs 2-4: Clinical
Students learn about disease and treatment with species-specific integrated courses as well as learning about pathology, pharmacology and veterinary public health. Students are also required to complete 26 weeks of clinical EMS placements by the end of final year. Final year comprises clinical rotations in our on-site hospital facilities, giving students real-life exposure to the work they will be undertaking following graduation.
"2+4" Program
In partnership with the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, students from the College of Veterinary Medicine CAU have the opportunity to enter onto the accelerated four-year Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVM&S) pathway. This agreement allows students to graduate with an internationally accredited degree in a combined total of six years and receive a qualification from both CAU and the University of Edinburgh.
