Research Interests

  • Foodborne bacterial pathogens and other zoonotic infectious diseases that affect animal health, food safety and public health, and environmental health.

  • Safe, effective and feasible prevention and control strategies including development of novel and practical vaccines, antimicrobials and other means to protect animal and public health and to ensure the safety of our food supplies.

  • Ecology, epidemiology, transmission, and antimicrobial resistance of foodborne bacterial pathogens along the food production and processing chain.

  • Comparative and functional genomics, evolution, and molecular biology of bacterial pathogens of importance to animal health, food safety and human health.

  • Surveillance for bacterial pathogens to identify emerging/re-emerging infections that threaten the well-being of animals and humans as well as to detect the emergence of new pathogenic variants and hypervirulent clones with novel traits.
